Its our birthday!

June 23, 2026

One year ago today, SCRUM Kitchen opened its doors at Canterbury Rugby Club.

What started as an exciting new chapter for the club has quickly become an important part of life at the Marine Travel Ground. From early morning breakfasts and matchday hospitality to pre match lunches, private functions, celebrations and Wednesday Pizza Nights, SCRUM Kitchen has welcomed thousands of visitors through its doors over the past twelve months.

At the heart of that success is Lou and her team, whose passion, hard work and commitment to quality have helped create something that has become much more than a rugby club kitchen. SCRUM Kitchen has become a place where players, supporters, families, local businesses and members of the wider community can come together over great food and good company.

Over the last year the team has catered for everything from grassroots rugby festivals and senior matchdays to private celebrations, business events and club functions. They have played a key role in helping make Canterbury Rugby Club a welcoming destination seven days a week.

No anniversary celebration would be complete without mentioning Pickle. Over the past year, our four legged mascot has become a familiar face around the club, popping up at events, inspecting breakfasts, supervising pizzas and ensuring standards remain exceptionally high. While Lou runs the kitchen, Pickle remains firmly in charge of quality control.

Thank you to Lou, the entire SCRUM Kitchen team, our customers and everyone who has supported the journey so far.

Here’s to the next chapter.

A day to celebrate our partners

May 1, 2026

There are days at the club that remind you what it is all about. This was one of them.

We were incredibly proud to cater for and service a fantastic Partners’ Lunch, last Saturday,  ahead of the 1st XV fixture v Barnes, welcoming 300 guests into a stunning marquee on the top pitch, expertly supplied by Maypole Marquees.

From the moment guests arrived, there was a real sense of occasion. The room was full of familiar faces, new connections, and a shared pride in being part of something bigger than just a matchday.

Our team at SCRUM Kitchen prepared and served a three course meal designed to bring people together. Simple, well cooked food, made with care, and delivered at scale without losing that personal touch. It set the tone for an afternoon that flowed effortlessly from one moment to the next.

The marquee bar was in full swing throughout, with wine and beer keeping glasses topped up as conversations and laughter carried across the room. Then came the entertainment, with the Secret Singers lifting the atmosphere and getting the whole marquee on its feet in a moment that will live long in the memory.

A lively auction followed, and once again the generosity of our partners and guests shone through. The support shown in that room spoke volumes about the strength of the community around the club.

As the season begins to draw to a close, this was far more than just a lunch. It was a chance to say thank you. To recognise the people and businesses who back the club week in, week out, and who play such an important role in everything we do.

From all of us at SCRUM Kitchen, it was a privilege to be part of it.

No time to stand still though. We go again this weekend with another big home game pre match lunch to prepare, alongside a full clubhouse of supporters to look after on Saturday. Then on Sunday, the club hosts the Kent Finals, with plenty of hungry mouths to feed and a busy bar ready to keep everyone refreshed across what promises to be another fantastic couple of days at the club.

Bat & Trap is Back at The Marine Travel Ground

March 2, 2026

Clear your diary. Rally your mates. Polish your competitive spirit.

The annual Bat & Trap Tournament is coming to The Marine Travel Ground on Saturday 18 July from 12pm, hosted by Verum Financial LLP in support of Kent Neuro Therapy Centre and Canterbury Rugby Football Club.

This year’s event is proudly sponsored by Burgess Hodgson, whose generous backing is helping us deliver what promises to be a brilliant afternoon of sport, sunshine and sociable competition.

What on earth is Bat & Trap?

It is one of Kent’s finest traditional games. Think village green energy, plenty of laughter, and just enough skill to keep things interesting.

There is:

  • No running at all
  • No experience required
  • Absolutely no excuse not to get involved

The rules have been lightly tweaked this year to keep things flowing and make sure we wrap up at a sensible time. That said, a steady hand and sharp eye will still go a long way.

If you are curious, take a look here:
https://www.batandtrapleague-canterbury.uk

Fair warning. Performance levels may fluctuate depending on how frequently you visit the bar.

Food, drink and summer atmosphere

The Clubhouse Bar will be open throughout, the BBQ will be fired up, and there will be a raffle on the day, all adding to the festival feel.

This is one of those days where competition meets community. Teammates become rivals for an afternoon, and rivals become friends again by the time the final burger is served.

Glory awaits

There will be trophies for the winners and runners up. They can be proudly displayed for a year before being kindly returned ahead of next summer’s showdown.

Casino Royale at the Clubhouse – A Surprise Player Party to Remember

February 23, 2026

On Friday 20th February, the Marine Travel Ground clubhouse was transformed for a very special occasion as we hosted a surprise player party with a full casino theme.

From the moment guests arrived, it was clear this was no ordinary celebration. The clubhouse was dressed to impress, complete with roulette and gaming tables, black and gold décor, and all the atmosphere of a true casino night. Long dining tables were laid in style, creating the perfect setting for teammates and friends to come together and celebrate.

SCRUM Kitchen were proud to cater the event, keeping guests well fed and the evening flowing seamlessly. As always, our focus was simple: quality food, smooth service and a memorable experience from start to finish. The result was a night packed with laughter, celebration and plenty of winning moments.

The feedback says it all:

“Thank you for last night. The lads had an amazing time, and were really stoked and loved it. We were very impressed with everything that you were able to provide.”

That is exactly what we aim for. Creating a space where people can come together, celebrate properly and leave with brilliant memories.

Themed drinks. National character. Matchday done properly

February 20, 2026

Week 3 of the Six Nations is nearly here and if you are joining us at SCRUM Kitchen this Saturday, come thirsty.

Alongside our themed burgers, the bar team have lined up a selection of drinks that celebrate the personality, pride, and unmistakable character of each nation. Every pour tells a story. Every glass carries a little bit of rugby heritage.

This is not just about what is in the glass. It is about who you are backing.

England – Master Brew
£4 a pint

Traditional. Dependable. Proudly brewed on home soil.

Master Brew is everything you expect from England on a rugby field. Solid foundations, rich history, and a steady confidence that builds over eighty minutes. A proper pint for those who like their rugby structured and their beer classic.

No fuss. Just quality.

Ireland – Baby Guinness
£3

Small but mighty.

Layered, bold, and guaranteed to get the table talking, the Baby Guinness mirrors Ireland’s sharp edge and fearless spirit. It may look playful, but it carries real punch, much like Ireland’s attack.

One becomes two. Two becomes a try celebration.

France – Château Moulin le Mallet, Bordeaux
£20 a bottle

Elegant. Expressive. Effortlessly stylish.

A Bordeaux that brings depth and flair to the table, much like France bring creativity and unpredictability to the pitch. Silky, balanced, and just a little bit theatrical.

For those who appreciate rugby played with imagination and wine chosen with care.

Italy – Prosecco Fonte
£25 a bottle

Vibrant. Passionate. Full of energy.

Italy play with heart, and Prosecco Fonte brings that same spark to the bar. Light, lively, and perfect for celebrating every break, turnover, and unexpected moment of brilliance.

Pop the cork. Back the azzurri.

Scotland – Irn Bru (Mixes well)
£1

Bold. Unmistakable. Impossible to ignore.

Irn Bru is Scotland in liquid form. Bright, fearless, and not afraid to stand out. Whether you take it straight or pair it as a mixer, it brings a bit of Highland edge to your matchday.

Strong character. Strong opinions.

Wales – Gwynt y Ddraig Black Dragon Cider
£4

Deep. Powerful. Proud.

Black Dragon Cider carries the fire of Welsh rugby. Full bodied, strong, and rooted in tradition. It is a drink for those who sing loudly, tackle hard, and believe to the final whistle.

Raise a glass to the valleys and the red jersey.

Choose your nation. Choose your drink.

Week 3 is set up perfectly. Big fixtures. Big tackles. Big moments.

SCRUM Kitchen will be serving themed burgers and these national favourites throughout the matches, so gather your mates, pick your colours, and make an afternoon of it.

Six Nations rugby deserves atmosphere.

We will see you at the bar.

Matchdays done properly… and we are only just getting started

February 17, 2026

What a weekend at the Marine Travel Ground!

Another roaring success for the Clubhouse and SCRUM Kitchen, and it all began in style with our Valentine’s pre match lunch. Good food, great company and, thanks to Tony Allan and the Singing Waiters, a musical finale that had the whole room on its feet. There were songs, there were smiles, and there may even have been a few unexpected high notes from the tables.

If you were there, you will know. If you were not, you missed a cracker.

And that set the tone for a brilliant weekend of Six Nations rugby on the big screens.

Round Two reflections

Ireland showed real heart to bounce back from their opening loss to France, edging past a spirited Italian side. With James Lowe back in the starting line up, there was a steadier feel to the Irish back line and more physical edge in midfield. Sam Prendergast struggled early on, but once Jack Crowley entered the fray the Irish looked far more organised and composed.

There are still questions around Ireland’s scrum and their long term rebuild, but it was a step forward.

Italy, meanwhile, continue to grow. Their scrum, powered by Simone Ferrari and Danilo Fischetti, was again dominant and Paulo Garbisi looked increasingly assured at ten. On another day, and without a controversial TMO call, they might have had two wins from two. They head into Sunday against France with belief.

At Murrayfield, Scotland reminded everyone exactly what they can do. Finn Russell pulled the strings beautifully and the Scottish backs were electric. More importantly, they dismantled England’s kicking game, squeezing the life out of a strategy that has served England well for over a year.

England’s Grand Slam hopes are over, but it was not quite the disaster some will claim. A fumble here, a drop goal decision there, and the margin might have told a different story. Still, Scotland were worthy winners and deserved the Calcutta Cup celebrations.

Over in Cardiff, France were simply irresistible. Even in a much improved Welsh performance, Les Bleus ripped through with offloads, pace and athleticism that make them tournament favourites. Wales showed better discipline and a stronger scrum, but France were electric.

Round Two had everything. Drama. Power. Controversy. Flair.

And it all tasted better with a burger in hand.

Six Nations Week Three is almost here

Now we build again.

Two games on Saturday. One on Sunday. All live at the clubhouse.

England v Ireland – Saturday 21 February, 2.10pm
After Scotland exposed England’s kicking game and Ireland continue to search for their best ten, this one feels finely balanced. Will England respond with control and composure, or will Ireland find the cohesion they lacked in spells last week?

Wales v Scotland – Saturday 21 February, 4.40pm
Scotland arrive brimming with confidence after Murrayfield magic. Wales showed genuine improvement against France. Expect passion. Expect noise. Expect fireworks.

France v Italy – Sunday 22 February, 3.10pm
France are favourites, but Italy’s scrum and Garbisi’s growing confidence could make this far more uncomfortable than many expect. If the Azzurri bring the same physicality, this might just be the test France did not see coming.

Clear the decks

Six Nations Week Three means one thing. Make plans now.

All games screened live on the clubhouse screens.
All Six Nations burgers available.
Six Nations themed drinks at the bar.

Research your Fantasy picks. Decide which nation suits your taste buds best. Text the group chat. Bring the family. Bring your mates.

One Clubhouse. All the games. One Club.

We know how to do matchdays properly. And we know you love rugby.

Valentine’s Day may have passed, but we are still a match made in rugby heaven.

See you at the Clubhouse.

Love is in the air… and in the kitchen

February 9, 2026

Valentine’s Day at Canterbury Rugby Club is shaping up to be a proper love story, and at SCRUM Kitchen we are very happy to be playing Cupid as we cater the Valentine’s pre-match lunch ahead of the 1st XV taking on Old Albanian RFC on Saturday 14 February.

We’ll be serving a romantic three-course lunch, cooked with care, flavour, and just enough indulgence to impress your date. Think wine, red roses, and that familiar, cosy clubhouse buzz that says “I love you”… without anyone actually having to say it out loud. Add in speeches, a raffle, and an auction, and you have all the ingredients for a Valentine’s celebration with a Black & Amber twist. The pre-match lunch itself is now sold out, which we will take as a compliment, but fear not, the romance does not stop there.

Because it would not be a rugby weekend without it, week two of the Six Nations will be live on the clubhouse screens. Stay for the internationals, build up to kick off, or do both. After all, nothing says true love quite like holding hands while shouting at the referee.

The day at a glance

  • Bar opens: 12.00pm, with matchday burgers served with love
  • Lunch served: 1.00pm for those lucky enough to have booked
  • 1st XV kick off: 3.00pm

Whether you are arriving hand in hand, with friends, or as part of the wider Black & Amber family, we cannot wait to feed you, water you, and help you fall a little bit more in love with rugby.

We’ll bring the food, the warmth, and the love.
You bring the company, the cheering, and maybe a kiss at full time.

Built for training: new fitness fuel menu launches at SCRUM Kitchen

February 6, 2026

SCRUM Kitchen, in conjunction with Top to Toe Fitness at the Marine Travel Ground, are proud to introduce Built for training – a brand-new menu designed to support performance, recovery, and everyday training Built for training.

Created with people who train in mind, this menu focuses on simple, nourishing ingredients that work as hard as you do. Whether you are finishing a tough session, squeezing fitness into a busy day, or just making smarter food choices, Built for training offers fuel you can rely on before and after exercise.

Food that supports how you train

The menu has been carefully put together to balance energy, protein, and healthy fats, helping you feel fuelled long after your workout ends.

Overnight oats (£4) provide slow-release energy and are ideal before training or as an easy post-session refuel. Made with oat milk, Greek yoghurt, chia, and flax seeds, they can be topped with everything from dark berry compote for an antioxidant boost to banana with peanut butter or honey for classic training fuel. Vegan options are also available.

For those needing something more substantial, The “Smashed it” menu (£8) delivers proper post-workout recovery. Fresh smashed avocado on Gilda sourdough toast forms the base, with a choice of toppings including poached egg, smoked salmon, bacon, or vibrant plant-based options such as tomato, lime and coriander salsa. Extra toppings are available for those wanting to build their plate around their training needs.

A partnership built around wellbeing

This new menu reflects the shared ethos of SCRUM Kitchen and Top to Toe Fitness: supporting long-term wellbeing, not quick fixes. It is food designed for training days, rest days, and everything in between.

The Built for training menu is served all week, excluding Men’s 1st XV home matchdays, making it easy to refuel around your routine.

Watch this space

This launch is just the beginning. With Top to Toe Fitness opening at the Marine Travel Ground, taster session announcements are coming soon. Keep an eye on club channels and SCRUM Kitchen updates for your chance to experience the training environment and the fuel that supports it.

February 5, 2026

Opening night special. France v Ireland

Lot’s of bookings already in. Have you booked in yet? Get your name on a steak.

We kick everything off, Thursday 5 February, with a mouth watering opener as France take on Ireland under the lights.

To mark the start of the Championship, SCRUM Kitchen will be serving up a proper rugby classic. Steak and frites from 6.30pm to 8.30pm, perfectly timed to fuel you up ahead of the 8.10pm kick off.

£15 per head.

Arrive early, grab a drink at the bar, enjoy great food, and settle in for what promises to be a blockbuster start to the Six Nations.

You are welcome to take a chance and walk in on the night, but we strongly recommend securing your steaks in advance by emailing scrumkitchen@cantrugby.co.uk

Six Nations themed burgers. Matchdays done properly

For all other Six Nations fixtures, apart from Saturday 14 February due to a home game, Scrum Kitchen will be serving up a special Six Nations themed burger menu, available for each of the games.

All burgers are served in brioche buns with fries.

The Italian
Steak burger with mozzarella, tomato, and pesto mayonnaise. A nod to flair and freshness. Melting mozzarella, ripe tomato, and fragrant pesto mayonnaise bring a touch of Roman sunshine to your matchday, smooth, balanced, and quietly confident.

The French
Steak burger with Brie, bacon, and Dijon mustard.  Rich, indulgent, and unapologetically bold. Creamy Brie meets crispy bacon, finished with a hit of Dijon mustard for a burger that plays with finesse but never shies away from contact.

The Irish
Built with power and finished with a little luck. Rich Cashel blue cheese brings depth and bite, rainbow slaw adds colour and crunch, and a golden onion ring sits proudly on top, a nod to the luck of the Irish and the pot of gold waiting at the end of the rainbow.

The Scottish
Hard working, uncompromising, and full of character. A proper haggis slice with sweet fried onions. Built for graft, grit, and long afternoons shouting about missed tackles.

The Welsh
Passionate, proud, and rooted in tradition. Sautéed leeks and crumbly Caerphilly cheese come together in a veggie option that sings with national pride and a choir worthy finish.

The English
Steak burger topped with mature Cheddar, bacon, fried onions, and English mustard mayonnaise.  Solid, powerful, and built for the long game. Mature Cheddar, smoky bacon, fried onions, and English mustard mayonnaise deliver a burger that is direct, dependable, and seriously satisfying.

All of the above at £9.95.

The Neutral
Steak burger, plain or with burger cheese slices.  No allegiances, no distractions, just pure rugby fuel. A classic steak burger, plain or with cheese, for those who are here for the contest, not the colours.
£7.95

Top Food Hygiene Rating

January 15, 2026

SCRUM Kitchen are very proud to announce that they have been awarded the top Food Hygiene Rating of 5 by the Food Standards Agency.

This is an excellent achievement, particularly in the relatively short time SCRUM Kitchen has been operating, and reflects the care, professionalism, and high standards that underpin everything the team does behind the scenes.

What this means for SCRUM Kitchen

A Food Hygiene Rating of 5 is the highest possible score and confirms that food safety, cleanliness, and kitchen management are all operating at an exceptional standard. It is a clear recognition of the team’s commitment to best practice, strong systems, and a culture where doing things properly matters every single day.

For the SCRUM Kitchen team, it is a moment of real pride. It validates the hard work that goes into food preparation, training, cleaning routines, and compliance, often unseen by customers but essential to delivering a great experience.

What it means for the rugby club

For Canterbury Rugby Football Club, this rating reinforces confidence in one of its most important community spaces. SCRUM Kitchen is at the heart of matchdays, training nights, family breakfasts, and social events, and this award demonstrates that the clubhouse kitchen is being run to the very highest standards.

It also reflects positively on the club as a whole, showing that Canterbury RFC takes its responsibilities to members, visitors, volunteers, and partners seriously, on and off the pitch.

What it means for everyone who eats there

For players, parents, supporters, sponsors, and members of the public, a 5 rating provides reassurance and peace of mind. It means food is being prepared in a clean, well-managed environment by a team that puts safety and quality first.

Whether it’s a Big SCRUM breakfast, a pre-match lunch, pizza night after training, or a coffee on a Sunday morning, customers can enjoy their food knowing it meets the highest national standards.

A standard the team is proud to uphold

This award is not a finish line, but a benchmark SCRUM Kitchen is proud to maintain. The focus remains on fresh, locally sourced ingredients, consistent quality, and a welcoming environment for the whole community.

SCRUM Kitchen: Made with pride, served with heart, bringing local ingredients to our community table.

Then as the sun sets, things heat up. From Tuesday to Thursday, SCRUM Kitchen transforms into pizza paradise, serving mouth-watering, stone-baked pizzas fresh from the oven. Eat in and enjoy the buzz of the club, or grab a takeaway to tuck into at home.

Whether you’re a rugby regular or just in it for the food, SCRUM Kitchen has you covered from first whistle to last bite.
